This original 9 x 12" magazine ad from 1915 dares you to try the Mantle Lamp Company's Kerosene Lamp in your home for 10 days free to see if you don't agree that it is far superior to any other gasoline or Oil lamp currently on the market.  The makers were so sure of their product they swore to give you a $1000 if you could show them an oil lamp equal to the brilliance of the Kerosene lamp.  I see many of these lamps in Antique stores today, so they must have been quite popular indeed.
